the Por Vida story

The Por Vida story…

Por Vida began in 2008 and was inspired by the principles of DĂa de los Muertos (Day of The Dead). Por Vida is a contemporary take on the traditional Mexican holiday. Por Vida integrates a themed and curated art exhibit, food and drink, music, installation spaces and is possible through the support of local sponsorship.

Por Vida was created by Columbus, Ohio artist Kat Marie Moya. The event has been consistently expanding with aspirations of reaching beyond Columbus, Ohio, it’s home base. Kat is a professional mixed media artist with experience in curating of group exhibits, event organization, graphic design and a professional tattoo artist since 1996. Kat feels that Por Vida should be accessible to all, as death, loss, and mourning does not discriminate. Being an artist, she believes in the healing power of creating, sharing that creation, and expounding on these creations with a broad public of new and seasoned art appreciators. She collects artists throughout the year in planning Por Vida that she feels will compliment one another, and challenge the viewer to a variety of interpretive works. Also a music lover, she welcomes one band and one DJ for each event to create an ambience unique to the guests of Por Vida, and coordinates this atmosphere with the art, installation work, and overall look of the event. Por Vida is an art piece, and the guests play the most important role in that work of art. The energy they bring, those they have in mind to honor, and their uniquely created costumes and characters show their desire to memorialize festively.
